Description from the seller
This is a photo by the Italian photographer Giuseppe Leone (Ragusa, December 24, 1936 – Ragusa, April 17, 2024), one of the most important photographers of Sicily. From the fifties he captured with his camera the landscapes, traditions and daily life of the island. His work was published in more than fifty books by publishers such as Sellerio, ERI, Electa and Bompiani, and was exhibited in exhibitions in Italy as well as abroad.
Leone preferred working in black and white. According to him, black-and-white photography “is the interpretation of nature and its changes; a look that strips an image of all unnecessary elements to reveal the essence of what you see.” This vision is clearly recognizable in his oeuvre, in which simplicity, atmosphere and human stories are central. In addition to his black-and-white work he also made color photographs, especially of coastal landscapes. The intense colors of these are often compared to the work of his friend, the painter Piero Guccione. His photographs of everyday Sicilian life also show a kinship with the visual language and poetic approach of the artist Renato Guttuso.
Dimensions: 25 x 38 cm
Dimensions with frame: 46 x 57 cm
Viewing is of course possible. In addition we have our own in-house frame shop, which is celebrating its 85th anniversary year.
