Description from the seller
Colorful and early work of Broer Dubbelsteen.
Oil on canvas
Dimensions: 80 x 50 cm
Dimensions with frame: 92 x 62 cm
Provenance: Private collection, Netherlands
Broer Dobbelsteen, born Johannes Anthonius (Johan) van den Dobbelsteen (Mierlo, 1936 – 2019), studied at the Academy for Industrial Design in Eindhoven. In the first years after completing his studies he still worked as a designer, but from 1964 he worked as a full-time artist. His work was characterized by primary colors and large fields, rugged forms, and a playful approach to the subject. He belonged to the expressionist movement, which largely shaped the face of the first half of the twentieth century. Experimentation, spontaneity and freedom were the main guiding principles. The use of bright colors and simple shapes is typical of Dobbelsteen’s work.
He drew partial inspiration from the Cobra movement. His paintings are widely collected by institutions, art dealers, galleries, and private collectors.
Viewing is, of course, possible. In addition, we have our own in-house framing shop, which is celebrating its 85th anniversary. Furthermore, we make use of restorers from the professional association: 'Restauratoren Nederland'. If you would like to make use of this, please let us know.
