Description from the seller
This photo was taken by the Italian-French photographer Walter Carone (1920-1982) and shows the iconic French actress Catherine Deneuve. Deneuve made her film debut already at thirteen in Les Collégiennes (1956), adopting the mother’s surname as her stage name. She gained international fame in 1964 with her role in Les Parapluies de Cherbourg, which was honored at the Cannes Film Festival. From that moment she grew into one of the leading actresses of French cinema and one of the biggest stars of the international film world in the 1960s.
Walter Carone was known for his refined portraits of celebrities and his reportage from the early editions of the Cannes Film Festival. Between 1945 and the mid-1960s he produced more than 10,000 high-quality photographs for various French publishers. These prints were produced by Starck Gallery and form a stylish tribute to both the glamour of cinema and the classical portrait photography of the twentieth century.
