Yvan Theys (1936–2005) was a Belgian painter, known for his role in the “New Figurativism” movement. His style combined figuration with abstraction, often with vibrant colors and expressive brushstrokes. Theys painted simple human figures and animals, often with a humorous or ironic undertone, exploring themes such as human existence and the absurdity of life.
He was influenced by the Cobra movement and artists such as Jean Dubuffet. His work continues to influence and is regularly exhibited in Belgium and Europe after his death in 2005.
