Description from the seller
This pastel drawing of a reclining woman was created by the British artist Michael Bastow (Bideford, 1943). Bastow moved as a child with his parents to Australia, where he studied architecture at the University of Melbourne. After a period as art director in the British film industry, he settled in Belgium in 1974 to devote himself entirely to painting. Since then he has worked from studios in Paris and the Provence and has exhibited internationally, including France, Belgium, England, the United States, Argentina, Peru and Australia.
The female nude forms the central theme of Bastow's oeuvre. In his work he explores the timeless appeal and stillness of the sensuality of the female body. His models often appear in relaxed, ambiguous, or subtly provocative poses that balance between intimacy and contemplation. Also in this pastel drawing, the reclining woman is central: with soft tonalities and a subtle line, Bastow manages to evoke a mood of calm, elegance and restrained sensuality. The work bears witness to his ongoing fascination with the relationship between artist and model, a recurring motif that gives his oeuvre personal and psychological depth.
Dimensions: 34 x 50 cm
Dimensions with frame: 56 x 70 cm
Viewing is of course possible. In addition, we have our own in-house framers, who are celebrating their 85th anniversary year. We also use restorers from the professional association: 'Restauratoren Nederland'. If you would like to make use of this, we would of course be happy to hear from you.
