Biography of Hoang Anh.
Born in 1984 in Thanh Hoa, Vietnam; lives and works in Hanoi
Originally from Thanh Hoa province, located 150 km south of Hanoi, Hoang Anh belongs to this pivotal generation of Vietnamese artists (the 8x generation) who blend cultural heritage with contemporary abstraction. A graduate of the Vietnam University of Fine Arts, he established himself on Hanoi’s art scene with a bold approach to material and color.
Diploma in Artistic Talent (Class of 13) from the Cultural and Arts School of Thanh Hoa
Diploma in Painting from the Vietnam University of Fine Arts (Class of 48)
Style and Artistic Approach
Hoang Anh’s work is distinguished by an intense exploration of texture and movement. Although he explores varied themes such as landscapes, nature, and the female form, it is in abstraction that he reveals his full expressive power:
• The energy of gesture: A practitioner of oil and acrylic painting, he frequently uses a palette knife to apply color in vigorous horizontal strokes. This gesture creates a almost musical rhythm on the canvas.
• Chromatic contrasts: His work plays on the opposition between often neutral backgrounds (urban grays, textured whites) and flashes of primary colors — ardent reds, solar yellows, and deep blues — which seem to burst from the surface.
• Lyric abstraction: His compositions do not seek to reproduce reality, but to capture its emotional essence. His canvases often evoke ephemeral phenomena: the reflection of light on water, the vibration of heat, or the bustle of a metropolis in flux.
Exhibitions and Recognition
An active and recognized artist, Hoang Anh regularly exhibits in prestigious galleries in Hanoi and within national art collectives. His works are part of numerous private collections in Vietnam and abroad, captivating with their ability to translate Eastern sensibility into a universal and modern language.
"Painting is, for me, a breath, a way to fix the invisible energy that surrounds us." — Hoang Anh
