Louis Nagelkerke (Eindhoven, February 3, 1949) has worked as a professional artist since 1980. Louis is a versatile artist who is never without inspiration or new ideas. Movement, beauty, and mysticism are characteristic of his artworks. He is especially inspired by life in the Indonesian archipelago and is fascinated by the mystery of its inhabitants, both people and animals. His inspiration often concerns the Eastern human. Musicians, dancers and female dancers, in particular the people of the beautiful island Bali. People from the theater are also often his models. The subjects of his work are as varied and rich as life itself. Yet his love for Eastern culture and religion, music and dance always returns. Louis Nagelkerke is best known for his very realistic depictions of people, “bringing out the beauty in people and animals.” That is the artist’s creed, who with his paintings wants to make the world more beautiful. He is able to accurately paint the essence of a figure in posture and mood.
