Kuno Schiefer (Stuttgart, 1948 – São José dos Campos, 1992) was a German painter and graphic artist who spent most of his life working in Brazil. His body of work comprises paintings, drawings, and prints, with his Brazilian period particularly characterized by influences from tropical nature and the landscape. Early on his work was noticed and exhibited in important galleries in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. From 1985 he divided his time between Brazil and Berlin, which had a significant influence on his artistic development.
In his work, Schiefer evolved from figurative representations of everyday objects to expressive, often abstract interpretations of vegetation and nature. His paintings are characterized by intense colors, a strong sense of light, and an almost musical rhythm in composition and brushwork. Through the exchange between Europe and Brazil, a personal visual language emerged, in which he gradually moved away from figuration toward more introspective and freer painting.
