- Legacy of the Kuno Schiefer family
Kuno Schiefer (Stuttgart, 1948 – São José dos Campos, 1992) was a German painter and graphic artist who spent most of his life working in Brazil. His body of work includes paintings, drawings and graphics, with his Brazilian period being particularly characterized by influences from tropical nature and the landscape. His work was noticed early and exhibited in important galleries in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. From 1985 he alternated between Brazil and Berlin, which had a significant influence on his artistic development.
In his work Schiefer developed from figurative depictions of everyday objects to expressive, often abstract interpretations of vegetation and nature. His paintings are characterized by intense colors, a strong sense of light and a nearly musical rhythm in composition and brushwork. Through the interaction between Europe and Brazil, a personal visual language emerged, in which he progressively moved away from figuration toward more introspective and free painting.
