Jacques Callot (1592-1635) - La foire de Grondeville

Beautiful anonymous engraving, in contrast to the original that Callot produced upon his return from Italy around 1625. Grondeville was the summer residence of the Bishop of Toul, protector of Callot.
In the bottom right "Iac Callot In Nanceij".
A specimen trimmed to fit the framing, on laid paper, in good condition, a few small stains and slightly soiled by time, visible in transmitted light small abrasions and restorations at the corners, (see photo).
A country fair, traditionally known as 'La foire de Gondreville'; a large tree under which some musicians sit playing; circle dance in the center, bocce game to the left, merchants to the right.
