Description from the seller
Achille Pace (1923-2021)
Approdo di un itinerario
Folder with three original etchings and text by Leo Strozzieri
I propose this rare artist’s folder coming from the collection of the printer Luciano Bongiovanni, master engraver who personally oversaw the printing in his workshop in January 1990.
For many years Luciano Bongiovanni collaborated with some of the leading figures in contemporary Italian art, establishing with them not only professional relationships but also genuine friendship and mutual respect. The works proposed today come directly from the collection formed through this intense activity as art printer and collector, a provenance that gives each specimen a special historical as well as collectible interest.
The folder “Approdo di un itinerario” documents one of the most mature seasons of Achille Pace’s research, among the founders of the Gruppo Uno and a reference figure in Italian abstraction of the second half of the twentieth century. In the three etchings, the mark, the central element of his poetics, develops with the usual lightness and lyrical tension, transforming the print into a space of balance, memory, and silence.
The edition comprises three original etchings, all signed and numbered in pencil by the artist, accompanied by the critical text by Leo Strozzieri.
The proposed exemplar is no. 29 of a limited edition of only 45 copies, a circumstance that increases its rarity.
The engravings are printed on fine engraving paper CM Fabriano, recognizable by the watermark with the historical crown in the shape of an “M” surmounted by a cross.
The dimensions of the folder are 36 × 52 cm.
Dimensions of the etchings:
a) composition with a large architectural structure: 19.5 × 29.5 cm
b) composition with two structures and wavy marks: 17.5 × 23.5 cm
c) horizontal linear composition: 14 × 20 cm
The condition is very good. The folder is complete and the three etchings are clean, free from tears, creases, or obvious restorations. The photographs are an integral part of the description and I advise examining them carefully.
No additional certificates are present; the provenance is documented by the original edition’s colophon and by direct belonging to the printer’s collection who executed the printing.
This folder represents an interesting testimony of the encounter between one of the leading exponents of Italian abstraction and the art of author’s copperplate printing. Its direct provenance from Luciano Bongiovanni’s collection adds a layer of authenticity and historical continuity, offering the collector not only a high-quality graphic work but also a part of the history of its creation.
The work will be shipped with professional packaging, carefully protected and insured.
