Description from the seller
Kees Verkade (1941–2020) is best known as a sculptor and draftsman, but he also made silkscreen prints. His graphic work aligns with his sculptural style: it revolves around movement energy, human figures and a certain dynamism.
In his silkscreens you often see smooth, expressive lines and strong, bright colors, making the figures almost seem to jump "into motion." Just like in his sculptures, it is not about tight, realistic details, but about the essence of a pose or moment.
His subjects are usually human figures, often in action or in an elegant, almost dancing pose. The silkscreens thus have a lively, theatrical atmosphere and seem to capture a movement.
Dimensions of work with frame: 37 x 28 cm
Dimensions of work without frame: 29 x 20 cm
Framed work.
Viewing possible. We have our own framing shop (85th anniversary) and work together with registered restorers (Restauratoren Nederland). Please feel free to contact us via our website.
Kees Verkade (Haarlem, 1941) studied from 1958–1963 at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague. Although he initially wanted to become an advertising illustrator, he ultimately chose sculpture. His first exhibition at the Vishal yielded two sales to the Frans Hals Museum, after which he established a studio in Zandvoort. In 1966 he received his first commission from the municipality of Haarlem for the Winkelen statue. Later he broke through internationally, especially in France and Monaco, where he has lived and worked since the late seventies. He had two sons from his first marriage and a daughter from his second.
