Geert-Jan Jansen (born 1943) created Femme in 1999 as a signed, original coloured-pencil work in the Impressionist style, measuring 40 by 46 cm and originating from the Netherlands in good condition.
Description from the seller
In this work Geert-Jan Janssen pays tribute to Pablo Picasso, an artist whose visual language he has studied like no other. With a few precise, flowing blue lines, a female face emerges where simplicity and expressiveness come together. The peace dove, one of Picasso's best-known symbols, rests, as it were, on the head of the figure and links beauty with the universal idea of peace.
Although the composition clearly references Picasso's famous contour drawings from his late period, the work is more than a copy. Janssen shows his exceptional mastery of the Spanish master's language of imagery and adds his own rhythm and spontaneity. The loose, confident line betrays the hand of an artist who for years studied the styles of the great modernists.
Provenance:
- From a private collection
