Jan Cremer, Zonder titel, a hand-signed, framed lithograph from 1999 in a limited edition of 91/200, in Cobra style, measuring 75 by 95 cm and originating from the Netherlands, sold by Galerie.
Description from the seller
Jan Cremer, a writer and artist, was born in Enschede in 1940. His father died in 1942, so Jan’s upbringing was entirely taken care of by his mother. Jan’s mother, Rosza Csordás Szomorkay, was Hungarian and studied at the conservatory in Budapest. After the war, Jan Cremer was placed in foster homes and colony houses by child protection. In the fifties he held various jobs, served with the marines and spent some time as a deckhand on the wild voyage. In 1958 he followed a course at the art academy in Arnhem and The Hague for a few months. Cremer lived on Ibiza for a while and in 1964 he moved to New York. Thereafter he alternated between America and Europe. As a writer, Cremer became instantly famous with “I, Jan Cremer” (1964). It is a picaresque novel with sex, violence and adventure. Because of this, the literary quality of his writing was not regarded as very high by everyone. The novel was kept out of libraries for a long time. “I, Jan Cremer” appeared in many languages. In addition to novels, Jan Cremer wrote travelogues and stage works. The art of Jan Cremer consists of paintings, graphics and gouaches and, often, depicts Dutch and also Italian landscapes in vivid colors.
Viewing is of course possible. In addition, we have our own in-house framing workshop, celebrating its 85th anniversary. Furthermore, we make use of restorers from the professional association: ‘Restauratoren Nederland’. If you would like to make use of this, we would of course be pleased to hear from you."
