This masterful work occupied Chagall for two long years. The octogenarian artist was passionate about this prestigious commission and has forever inscribed himself in the piece with his self-portrait at the palette beside the Eiffel Tower (see photo).

This work was issued for the portfolio celebrating the realization and inauguration of the ceiling of the Paris Opera by Marc Chagall in 1964. It is annotated Première maquette en couleurs non retenue.

Very good condition - the usual central fold (as issued) with the text and image on the back (as issued – see photo) light foxing in the upper margin (see the last photo) and a small abrasion in the lower left corner
