Jean Cotelle (1645-1708), da - La cacciata dal Paradiso terrestre - Rara

Rare engraving taken from a work by the French painter Jean Cotelle, depicting the expulsion of Adam and Eve from the Garden of Eden.
A specimen with margins, on laid paper with traces of watermark, in good condition, with the lower right corner restored and a small abrasion visible only in transmitted light (see photo).
Below the image is a bilingual Latin/French description of 3 lines on two columns, further down, on the left "Cotelle inv.", in the center "excudit" "A Paris chez I. Mariette rue S.t Jacques aux Colonnes d'Hercules", on the right the number "5" of the series.
An angel with a flaming sword, placed by God to guard the path leading to the Tree of Life, drives Adam and Eve away; at their feet the "serpent".
