Original work by Jan Cremer. In honor of his exhibition: Jan Cremer as Painter (The Hague period 1958-1962) at Galerie Nouvelles Imges in The Hague.
Cremer has made a beautiful piece in several exhibition brochures.
Jan Cremer, writer and artist, was born in 1940 in Enschede. His father died in 1942, which meant that Jan's upbringing was entirely the responsibility of his mother. Jan's mother, Rosza Csordás Szomorkay, was Hungarian and studied at the conservatory in Budapest. After the war Jan Cremer was placed by child protection in foster homes and colony houses. In the fifties he had various jobs, served with the marines and spent some time as a sailor on the open sea. In 1958 he undertook a few months of study at the art academy in Arnhem and The Hague. Cremer lived for a while on Ibiza and left in 1964 for New York. Thereafter he lived alternately in America and Europe. As a writer, Cremer quickly became famous with "I, Jan Cremer" (1964). It is a picaresque novel with sex, violence and adventure. Because of this, the literary merit of his authorship was not regarded highly by everyone. The novel was kept out of libraries for a long time. "I, Jan Cremer" appeared in many languages. In addition to novels, Jan Cremer wrote travelogues and plays. The art of Jan Cremer consists of paintings, graphics and gouaches and often depicts Dutch, and also Italian, landscapes in vivid colors.
