Broer Dobbelsteen (1936–2019) created Abstract gezicht, a 1993 oil on canvas in Cobra style, signed lower left, 154 by 134 cm, original edition, sold with frame, produced in the Netherlands.
Description from the seller
Broer Dobbelsteen was a versatile Brabantian artist who made a name for himself mainly with his colorful and expressive paintings. Although he was originally trained as a designer at the academy in Eindhoven, he turned his career in 1964 to focus entirely on free art. His work, often revolving around human figures and abstract forms, stands out for its vibrant use of color and a very distinctive, recognizable handwriting. Until his death in 2019, he remained a striking figure in the Geldrop region, where he worked for years on a body of work that still frequently appears among collectors and at art auctions.
The oil paintings by Broer Dobbelsteen are known for their powerful, expressive appearance, heavily influenced by the CoBrA movement. He employed a recognizable technique in which he often worked with thick layers of paint (impasto) and a rough, spontaneous brushwork.
Provenance: Private collection, Netherlands
Lower left signed and dated
