A great Dutch master artist who unfortunately only lived 31 years. His entire oeuvre, created between 1907 and 1918, comprises about 150 paintings, mostly small formats, around 100 drawings and more than 40 sheets of graphic art, mainly etchings and woodcuts.

Jan Mankes entered art history as “Holland's most tranquil painter.” He died young of tuberculosis, something that contributed to the myth-making around his artistry.
