Rodrigo Barrientos (XX) - Rien de plus

Barrientos Rodrigo (1931–2013) was born in Colombia. His uncle, a cabinetmaker in Medellín, introduced him to working with wood. Becoming a painter, he exhibited his paintings in Colombia, Venezuela, Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador and Brazil, where he settled in 1964. With Cézanne as his model, he came to France and settled in Paris in 1974 to become one of the masters of wood engraving, or xylography. Barrientos loves woods of varied species, with their grains and veins, which he lets show through under the ink of his black patches or of several colors.
