Raoul Dufy (1877-1953) - Marrakech

Lithography after Raoul Dufy (1877-1953) titled “Marrakech” lithographed in 1965 on Velin paper by the presses of master lithographer Fernand Mourlot (Atelier Mourlot) in a posthumous tribute to Raoul Dufy.

The lithograph is signed “Raoul Dufy” on the plate and is marked Artist’s Proof (“EA”) on the plate!

The Marrakech subject corresponds to Dufy’s travels to Morocco, undertaken in the late 1940s, after World War II. Works inspired by this stay are generally dated between 1948 and 1952.

Raoul Dufy (1877-1953) was a French painter, draftsman, printmaker and decorator, born in Le Havre. He began his career under the influence of Impressionism before adopting the Fauve style, notably inspired by Henri Matisse. His work is distinguished by bright colors, fluid lines and great freedom of expression. Dufy loved to depict landscapes, ports, regattas, gardens, concerts and scenes of fashionable life. His paintings convey a sense of lightness, movement and joie de vivre. He also worked for the decorative arts, creating fabrics, ceramics and illustrations. His monumental work The Electricity Fairy, created in 1937, is one of his most famous creations. Considered one of the great French artists of the 20th century, Raoul Dufy left a luminous and poetic œuvre that continues to be admired in museums around the world.
