The present poster was produced for the 1971 exhibition “Picasso et la Paix” in Paris and is closely linked to Pablo Picasso’s long-standing engagement with the theme of peace. The motif combines Picasso’s characteristic reduced, expressive visual language with the internationally well-known peace motif.

What is particularly noteworthy is the numbered and stamped edition of the present exemplar.

The connection between Pablo Picasso and the renowned Parisian printing workshop Mourlot is among the most influential collaborations between artist and printer in the 20th century. From the 1940s onward, Picasso developed an intensive working relationship with Fernand Mourlot and his experienced team. In this collaboration, he explored lithography not only as a technical process but above all as an autonomous artistic means of expression with nearly unlimited design possibilities.

This creative collaboration is especially impressive in Picasso’s later engagement with the idea of peace. The work also exemplifies the exceptional importance that the French lithography tradition has attained for modern art history.
