Description from the seller
Piero Dorazio
(1927 - 2005)
Untitled
Year 1975
Lithograph, edition 91/125, signed in pencil in his own hand by Maestro Dorazio dated 1975,
bears slight yellowing of the sheet, minor oxidation stains along the right margin due to time
Sheet size 50x70 cm
Piero Dorazio is known for his gestural and atmospheric paintings of grids, blurred with fluid and pulsating brushstrokes in color and texture.
Born in Rome in 1927, he formally studied painting and classical drawing, followed by architecture; from the late forties, his presence in artistic and literary circles influenced the impact of Russian Suprematism, Constructivism, the Paris School, Surrealist Biomorphism, and above all Italian Futurism: Dorazio was deeply influenced by Giacomo Balla.
Towards the end of the fifties, Dorazio produced monochrome paintings whose surfaces are made up of intertwined threads of color and were compared to "a visible net".
As Dorazio’s work progressed, he continued his linear, cross-hatched paintings with drawings varying in density and complexity but consistently focused on clarity.
