Description from the seller
Splendid and rare original lithograph by the master of Art Brut Jean Dubuffet, entitled "Mur à l'oiseau" (1945). The work constitutes Plate No. 2 of the famous artist's portfolio Les Murs, created in close collaboration with Eugène Guillevic's poems. It perfectly represents the author's informal aesthetic, combining the primitive and materic aspect of the stone-wall texture with the relief-printed poetry and the iconic figure of the stylized bird.
On the back of the sheet there are precise descriptive and cataloging indications in pencil, laid down by an expert hand, reporting the official reference data.
Officially referenced in the Sophie Webel graphic catalog as No. 56 (Webel 56)
Edition: Limited edition of only 192 copies (plus 3 artist proofs, total 195).
A non-signed-from-the-origin copy, as provided for the editorial suite printed in Paris by Mourlot.
The work is presented within a minimalist dark wood frame with double transparent glass that enhances the integrity of the sheet and allows viewing the texture of the paper. Excellent overall condition, with the natural and fascinating untrimmed margins typical of Montval support.
A historic collector’s piece of twentieth-century avant-garde graphics, perfect for collectors of Art Brut and the Paris School.
