Walter Valentini (Pergola, October 22, 1928 – Milan, May 20, 2022) was an Italian painter, sculptor and etcher, internationally recognized in the field of graphics and engraving.
Numerous prizes won and exhibitions: 1st Biennale dell’incisione Italiana contemporanea in Venice in 1955; International Biennale of Ibiza and of Listowel; International Biennale of Krakow in 1984; International Biennale of Ljubljana in 1984 and 1989; the XLVII Venice Biennale; Rome Quadriennale in 1999.
He created, on direct commission, large installations in Milan, Bologna, Reggio Emilia, Chiaravalle (Ancona), Pesaro, Siegburg (Germany), Connecticut and Aspen (USA).
He was part of the group that in 2001 designed the church of Ca' Staccolo in Urbino.
An universe, Valentini’s, poetic, rhythmic, musical, a geometric and evocative symbolism that leads toward a synthesis, almost metaphysical and surreal, a relationship between sign, structure and visual matter that tends toward a new constructivism rich in suggestive elements, enough to appear as states of mind. Since the 1970s he deepened the link between painting and engraving together with a thorough exploration of space with temporal valences, time and space, interpreted and reinvented with mastery through lines, abrasions, cracked walls, architectures and magical, poetic geometries.
