Walter Valentini (Pergola, October 22, 1928 – Milan, May 20, 2022) was an Italian painter, sculptor, and engraver, internationally recognized in the field of graphics and engraving.
He won numerous awards and took part in many exhibitions: 1st Biennale of Contemporary Italian Engraving in Venice in 1955; International Biennales of Ibiza and Listowel; International Biennale of Kraków in 1984; International Biennale of Ljubljana in 1984 and 1989; the XLVII Venice Biennale; the Rome Quadriennale of 1999.
He created, on direct commission, large installations in Milan, Bologna, Reggio Emilia, Chiaravalle (Ancona), Pesaro, Siegburg (Germany), Connecticut and Aspen (USA).
He was part of the group that, in 2001, designed the church of Ca' Staccolo in Urbino.
An universe, Valentini’s, poetic, rhythmic, musical, a symbolic geometric and evocative symbolism that leads toward a synthesis, almost metaphysical and surrealist, a relationship between sign, structure, and visual matter that tends to a new constructivism rich in suggestive elements, so much so that it appears as “states of mind.” Since the 1970s he explored the link between painting and engraving together with a deep exploration of space with temporal valences, time and space, interpreted and reinvented with mastery through lines, abrasions, cracked walls, architectures and magical geometries, poetic.
