Complete set of 4 architectural and engineering prints belonging to the Charpente (Carpentry/Timber-framed structures) section, illustrating in detail the famous hydraulic machine and water lifting structure of the Pompe du Pont Notre-Dame in Paris.
Origin: Encyclopédie, ou Dictionnaire raisonné des sciences, des arts et des métiers, edited by Denis Diderot and Jean le Rond d'Alembert.

Engraver/Draftsperson: Robert Bénard (Benard Fecit) after drawings by Goussier (Goussier del.).
Technique: Copperplate engraving / Original 18th-century etching on tin paper (tina) of the period, with the print matrix impression visible and original edition folds.
