Kuno Schiefer (Stuttgart, 1948 – São José dos Campos, 1992) was a German painter and graphic artist who spent the majority of his life working in Brazil. His oeuvre includes paintings, drawings, and prints, with particular emphasis on his Brazilian period, characterized by influences from the tropical nature and landscape. His work was noticed early on and exhibited in important galleries in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. From 1985 he worked alternately in Brazil and Berlin, which had a significant influence on his artistic development.
In his work Schiefer developed from figurative representations of everyday objects to expressive, often abstract interpretations of vegetation and nature. His paintings are characterized by intense colors, a strong sense of light, and an almost musical rhythm in composition and brushwork. Through the interplay between Europe and Brazil, a personal visual language emerged, in which he progressively moved away from figurative art toward more introspective and freer painting.
