BIOGRAPHY: Gérard VIELLEVIE is a French painter, born in La Queue-les-Yvelines, near Paris, in 1939. He studied at the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris. A student of the classics and a former pupil of the renowned National School of Decorative Arts in Paris, he draws inspiration from Post-Impressionist art and creates sculptures and mosaics based on his inherent interest in this style. He began making bas-reliefs, sculptures, and frescoes for many schools and town halls in cities such as Paris, Cannes, Strasbourg, Lille and Saint-Tropez, which now exist in many hotels in these cities. He was close to painter Paul Aïzpiri.
Faithful to the tradition of leading Post-Impressionist painters such as Van Gogh, Vieillevie's work consists of still lifes, lush gardens, and flora. His work has been exhibited in Paris, Tokyo, Osaka, and Seoul, and he received the International Lion's Club Gold Medal for painting (1974). He died in 1992. Posthumously, in 1993, a major exhibition at the Katia Granoff Gallery was dedicated to him.
