An unsigned 17th‑century Italian copper engraving after Annibale Carracci, Penitent Saint Jerome in a Classical Landscape, 27 × 39 cm, in good condition with minor aging and folds.

Fine antique copperplate engraving depicting a "Classical Landscape with Saint Jerome in Meditation" (also known as Landscape with the Philosopher).Artist / Inventor: Annibale Carracci (Bologna, 1560 – Rome, 1609)Era / Scope: 17th - 18th Century. High-quality antique edition derived from the famous Carracci prototype. The rendering of the foliage and rocks closely recalls the circle of Giovan Francesco Grimaldi (Il Bolognese).Subject: Splendid example of an "ideal landscape" of Bolognese origin. On the right, the holy hermit is portrayed in a melancholic and contemplative pose under a large tree. The scene unfolds in a wide natural setting described with miniature-like care, between waterways, tree-lined backdrops and mountains in the background traversed by flocks of birds.Technic: Engraving with etching on laid paper.Condition: Generally good given the age. Slight natural yellowing and minor foxing. The sheet shows central horizontal and vertical folds (probable sign of ancient binding or archival folding, see photos). Clean margins.
