Jacques Monory (XX) - Velvet Jungle

Jacques Monory (1924-2018) was a French artist, painter, filmmaker and silkscreen printer, a major figure of the French Figuration Narrative of the 1960s. Trained at the École des arts appliqués de Paris, he worked notably in the field of art publishing before developing a personal body of work inspired by photography, cinema and the American imagination.

His universe is recognizable by its monochrome compositions, notably his famous blues, his images of cars, urban scenes and cinematic references. He moved among the Figuration Narrative artists such as Hervé Télémaque, Erró, Bernard Rancillac, Peter Klasen and Eduardo Arroyo.

Jacques Monory also produced numerous original serigraphs, often in limited editions, some of which are signed and hand-numbered.
