Olive-Tamari - Lysette

Henri Olive-Tamari, signing simply Olive Tamari, is a French artist born in La Seyne-sur-Mer in 1898 and died in Toulon in 1980. Painter, engraver, ceramicist and poet, he moved in the Parisian art scene during the interwar years and formed connections with André Derain, Émile-Othon Friesz and Moïse Kisling. His work evolves from figurative painting inspired by the old masters toward a more personal, sometimes abstract expression, marked by compositions with intense colors, notably his famous “blue Tamari.”

Renowned engraver, he produced numerous lithographs and etchings in his Toulon studio, where he developed a highly skilled technique. His works on paper bear witness to his explorations of color, dreams and humanist themes.
