"Senza preavviso" (project Grogland)
There are emotions that arrive before words. When it happens, I take up the marker and start. The gesture is my first response to what I feel.
Grogland arises from this immediacy, from the desire to have a more direct and instinctive relationship with the canvas. I use Grog markers, tools tied to the world of writing, and I bring a street attitude into my work: the decision to intervene, to take space, and to leave a trace. The canvas becomes the place where I discharge an energy while it is still alive, without waiting to fully understand it.
My mark originates in 2019, on the small blocks of the calls/orders, while I was working at a bar. I drew in moments of waiting, letting the hand spontaneously repeat certain movements. Over time that gesture became a personal language. In Grogland I find it again with a different urgency: what I feel enters immediately into how I move, the pressure I exert, the speed with which I intervene, and the decision to continue or stop.
"Senza preavviso" arises from this close passage between emotion and action. I can start painting without already having a story to tell. I just need to feel that something wants to come out. The meaning may arrive later, when I step away from the canvas and recognize what I have left there.
Being direct, for me, also means exposing myself. In the gesture remain the impulse, hesitation, certainty, and the tension of that moment. I accept that this presence can be felt, even in its irregularities. That is where the work preserves something concrete of my passage.
Grogland is the space I give to this way of expressing myself. Each canvas captures a moment I could not repeat exactly, because in the meantime I have already changed. Through my language, I try to give to what I feel an immediate presence: I have an emotion, I bring it to the canvas. From there the work begins.
BIO:
I am Pietro Fight, an Italian visual artist based in Milan. My research centers on the writing of gesture: an abstract language made of marks, circles, fills and voids that repeat and transform from one work to another. Through my paintings I try to tell my way of seeing life and my artistic path, working on the relationship between density and breath, weight and space. Each work is unique and grows from a manual process made of rhythm, repetition, and ever-changing variations.
