Hans Wigert (1932–2015) - Angels in the Landscape

graphic work by Swedish artist Hans Wigert depicts several stylised human figures moving through a natural landscape, surrounded by water, trees and vegetation. The composition is dominated by muted blue, green and earthy tones, with darker outlines and contrasting areas of colour giving the scene a dreamlike and slightly mysterious atmosphere.

Wigert does not attempt to reproduce the figures or landscape realistically. Instead, he simplifies and distorts their forms, using spontaneous lines, rough textures and expressive colour to capture a feeling or impression of the scene. The result has a strong connection to his distinctive approach to nature and the human figure.


Hans Wigert (1932–2015) was a Swedish painter, graphic artist, draughtsman and sculptor, born in Karlskrona. He initially studied for a short period at Konstfackskolan, but left his formal studies to travel to Spain, where he pursued his own artistic studies. After returning to Sweden, he studied under Staffan Hallström at Gerlesborgsskolan and later studied drawing under Bror Marklund and painting under Evert Lundquist at the Royal Institute of Art in Stockholm (1959–1965).
