Splendid woodcut of a family walking through a snowy village. The parents' sunken cheeks reveal the poverty. It is 1929, the crisis; probably the man has become unemployed. Nice details are the houses in the upper left and the crow beside the boy.

Crafted by Willem Boon (Dordrecht 28.02.1902 – Rotterdam 30.09.1986), wood engraver, lithographer, sculptor, etcher, designer, painter, watercolorist and draftsman, educated at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rotterdam. After 1940 he produced exclusively non-figurative work.

Woodcut on sturdy paper, 33.5 x 28 cm, lower right pencil-signed Willem Boon 1929, lower left titled “Winter”, lower left in the plate 29 W B VAEVO, behind a black velvet mat behind glass in a very nice black with aluminum frame of 58.5 x 52.5 cm.

Framed, with a description on the back and sold by Galerie Van Eijck, in Rotterdam.

Schitterende houtsnede van een gezin dat door een besneeuwd dorp loopt. Door de ingevallen wangen van de ouders straalt de armoe er van af. Het is 1929, crisis; waarschijnlijk is de man werkloos geworden. Aardige details zijn de huisjes linksboven en de kraai naast de jongen.
Vervaardigd door Willem Boon (Dordrecht 28.02.1902 – Rotterdam 30.09.1986), houtgraveur, lithograaf, beeldhouwer, etser, ontwerper, schilder, aquarellist en tekenaar, opgeleid aan de Academie voor Beeldende Kunsten te Rotterdam. Na 1940 maakte hij uitsluitend non-figuratief werk.
