Otto Piene was a prominent German artist of the postwar period and co-founder of the **ZERO-Gruppe** (1957) together with Heinz Mack and Günther Uecker. The ZERO movement stands for **new beginning, light art, kinetic art, Op Art, reduction, movement and spatial impact**. Piene worked intensively with **light installations, grid structures, Fire Paintings, Smoke Drawings** and later with **Sky Art and air sculptures**. Together with Mack and Uecker he developed an art of **immateriality, dynamism and perception**, which consciously set itself apart from Informal and traditional painting and instead focused on **light, energy, time and technology**.
