Robert Bénard (XVIII) - Histoire Naturelle

Old natural history engraving depicting two fish, “la tâche noire” and “l’argus,” from an ichthyology plate engraved in the 18th century by Robert Bénard. The authenticity is guaranteed by the presence of the imprint cuvette from the copper plate, and macroscopic examination (see photo) confirms the relief of the black ink lines and the absence of any modern printing halftone. It is indeed a historical print. The impression was produced in intaglio and hand-watercolored on period paper. Although 250 years old, this engraving is in good condition despite foxing; see the photos. It will be shipped between rigid cardboard to prevent any damage.
