BIOGRAPHY: Gérard VIELLEVIE was a French painter, born in La Queue-les-Yvelines, near Paris, in 1939. He studied at the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris. A student of the classics and former pupil of the renowned national lycée des artistes décoratifs in Paris, he is inspired by post-Impressionist art and creates sculptures and mosaics based on his inherent interest in this style. He began making bas-reliefs, sculptures and frescoes for many schools and town halls in cities such as Paris, Cannes, Strasbourg, Lille and Saint-Tropez, which now exist in many hotels in these cities. He was close to the painter Paul Aïzpiri.
Faithful to the tradition of leading post-Impressionist painters such as Van Gogh, Vieillevie’s work comprises still lifes, lush gardens and flora. His work has been exhibited in Paris, Tokyo, Osaka and Seoul, and he received the Gold Medal from the International Lion's Club for painting (1974). He died in 1992. Posthumously, in 1993, a major exhibition at the Katia Granoff gallery was dedicated to him.
