Description from the seller
Christo & Jeanne-Claude – The Arc de Triomphe, Wrapped, Paris 1961–2021 – Original fabric fragment – Framed
A fine framed presentation devoted to one of the most iconic projects by Christo and Jeanne-Claude: The Arc de Triomphe, Wrapped, realized in Paris in 2021.
The ensemble pairs a gallery map depicting the wrapped Arc de Triomphe project with an original fabric fragment linked to the 2021 installation, presented separately under a mat.
The fragment measures about 6 × 6 cm and consists of the characteristic fabric used for the project: a recyclable blue-silver polypropylene material with a metallic look.
The composition was created in a professional frame, with a double mat, to highlight both the image of the project and the textile fragment. The result forms a decorative object that is particularly elegant, but above all a tangible record of this monumental yet ephemeral installation.
Dimensions:
Frame: about 30.5 × 25.5 × 3 cm
Fabric fragment: about 6 × 6 cm
The Arc de Triomphe, Wrapped
First imagined in 1961, the project took nearly sixty years to become a reality.
Christo, who arrived in Paris in the late 1950s, lived near the Arc de Triomphe and was very early drawn to the monument. As early as 1962, he created a photomontage depicting the Arc de Triomphe wrapped, followed by several studies and collages devoted to the project.
After Christo’s death in 2020, the project was carried out in accordance with his wishes by his team.
The Arc de Triomphe, Wrapped was visible in Paris for only 16 days, from September 18 to October 3, 2021.
For this spectacular installation, the monument was covered with about 25,000 m² of recyclable blue-silver fabric and surrounded by nearly 3,000 meters of red rope.
The project was carried out in partnership with the Centre des monuments nationaux, in coordination with the City of Paris and with the support of the Centre Pompidou.
Today gone, the deliberately ephemeral nature of the installation makes documents, memories, and material fragments directly related to its realization particularly interesting.
This framed set thus offers an original way to preserve and present a tangible fragment of the history of The Arc de Triomphe, Wrapped.
A very fine object for a collection dedicated to Christo & Jeanne-Claude, to contemporary art, to Land Art, or to the great artistic installations of the 20th and 21st centuries.
The frame will be carefully protected and packed for shipping. Shipping with tracking number.
Note: the photographs are an integral part of the description and allow precise appreciation of the condition and presentation of the set.
