Oscar Kokoschka (1886-1980). "Madeleine" Lithograph from 1920. From the series "Varazioni su un tema" (Variations on a Theme), created in 1920. Published in Vienna by Richard Lanyi and Ed. Strache, 1921. Printed in Vienna at the Kunsthaus Max Jaffé. Total limited edition of 350 copies. Signed in the stone with a monogram. Preserved in excellent condition. Paper size: 70 x 50 cm. Cataloging the complete work: Hans M. Wingler/Friedrich Welz, *Oskar Kokoschka: Das druckgraphische Werk* (The Graphic Work), Salzburg 1975, nos. 140–144. The Viennese art historian Karl Swoboda organized concerts at his home in 1920. One of the attendees was the artist Oskar Kokoschka. While listening, he drew 20 chalk portraits of two women in the audience; one was Kamilla Swoboda, Karl's wife. The surname of Madeleine—a regular listener at these recitals—is unknown. [In our opinion, it is the best of the series.] __________________________________ Professional packaging with all security measures.
