Gandago – Jan Sierhuis
Gandago by Jan Sierhuis is a good example of his expressive and energetic painting style. As with many of his paintings, it is less about a clear narrative and more about feeling, movement and color.
After the war, Jan Sierhuis developed into an expressionist painter, influenced among others by Van Gogh, Matisse and Picasso. Together with Appel, Corneille and Lucebert he found himself at the heart of postwar developments in art.
In 1945 Sierhuis was admitted to the evening program at the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten, which he left after a conflict.
