Original color lithograph by Joan Miró (1893–1983) from 1972, created for the first volume of the significant work catalog Miró Lithographe I (1930–1952).

The present sheet is the “Original Lithograph V” and is documented in the catalog under Mourlot No. 861. The publication is listed as Cramer Books 160. The lithograph was printed by Mourlot, Paris, and appeared as part of the 1972 published catalog edition.

On the reverse side is the original typographic designation:

The sheet is not hand-signed and not individually numbered, as provided for the regular book edition. The Miró Lithographe I book edition appeared in a total print run of 5,000 numbered books; the lithographs contained therein are not individually numbered.

Miró’s characteristic imagery is clearly expressed on this sheet: a large green crescent, bold black calligraphic marks, and intense red, blue, and green areas of color over a dynamic network of orange and turquoise lines.

Condition

Good age-related condition. The vivid colors of the lithograph are very well preserved.

On the reverse are older handwritten notes as well as a small inventory/retailer sticker. Additionally, there are light aging/storage marks on the back. These do not significantly affect the front and are documented in the photographs.

The sheet is offered unframed.

Bibliographic classification

The work is not a modern reproduction or a Giclée, but an original lithograph from 1972, created for the catalog publication and printed by Mourlot. A current auction listing explicitly catalogs the same sheet as “Original color lithograph,” Mourlot 861 / Cramer 160, unsigned and unnumbered as issued.

Besides copies of the book edition, there are also separate editions on different paper or signed deluxe copies. The sheet offered here belongs to the regular, unsigned publication edition.
