Oswaldo Guayasamín is a painter of social realist expressionism. He is regarded as one of the great masters of Ecuadorian art, on par with (among others) Eduardo Kingman, Enrique Tábara, Felix Arauz, Juan Villafuerte, and Anibal Villacis. His foundation-museum in Quito houses three thousand pieces, of which fifteen hundred are on permanent display.
