This work was created in 1952 to serve as an invitation card issued by Galerie Maeght in Paris for a major exhibition dedicated to Chagall's illustrations for La Fontaine's Fables, as well as to his ceramics and sculptures.

Printed at the time by the famous Paris workshop Mourlot on Arches Vélin paper. The work bears the artist's signature directly integrated into the plate (top left).

Dimensions without frame: 8.5 x 37 cm.
