Description from the seller
Interesting original painting by artist Gay Candelis, done in oil on canvas and dated in 1970.
The work depicts a landscape with trees in the foreground and a stretch of water in the background. It stands out especially for its very tactile and expressive painting, with abundant impasto, clearly visible in the trunks, the vegetation and the different areas of the landscape. The combination of greens, grays, ochres and blue-toned hues creates a serene atmosphere characteristic of 20th-century landscape painting.
Gay Candelis was an active painter during the 20th century, known mainly for his oil landscapes. His works appear on the art market and at auctions, especially rural and natural landscapes, in which the expressive treatment of the painting material and light stands out. The biographical information available about the artist is limited, although his works are documented in various art-market archives and databases.
The painting is signed “Candelis” and dated “70” on the lower left.
Presented in a conspicuous wooden frame with a dark finish, textile matting and an inner gold profile, which complements the work very well.
Approximate dimensions: 70 × 80 cm.
The painting shows craquelure and signs of its age, visible in the photographs, which form part of its current state and character.
The photographs are an integral part of the description. It is recommended to examine them carefully to appreciate the condition, the texture of the painting, the signature, the frame and other details of the work.
