Biography: Isis Kischka (Paris, 1908-1973) was a French figurative painter.
Her parents, immigrants originally from the Russian Empire, settled in Paris.
Isis Kischka spent part of her studies in Dreux. He endured the experience of concentration camps during the Second World War, near Compiègne, where he met, among others, the painter Abraham-Joseph Berline (1894-1944). He survived internment. A seller of menswear shirts, he became passionate about Art.
Of expressionist tendency, he was the founding president of the Salon of Painters Bearing Witness to Their Time, of which he was secretary-general until his death in 1973. With the help of Georges Reccio, the association took shape: he organized annual exhibitions at the Musée d'Art Moderne and at the Musée Galliera in Paris, allowing promising artists to be showcased around general themes. A posthumous tribute was paid to him in 1975, on the theme: "Comme Il Vous Plaira...", at the Orangerie in the French capital.
In 2001, works from his studio were dispersed at an auction.
The Musée d’Art et d’Histoire de Meudon possesses many drawings from the Salon of Painters Bearing Witness to Their Time, which belonged to Kischka, who did not sign the majority of his works.
