Description from the seller
Pablo Picasso — Drawings 27.3.66–15.3.68, 1969
Color lithograph on BFK Rives paper
Signed in pencil in the lower right margin and numbered 106/150 in the lower left margin.
A particularly colorful, vibrant work with great visual intensity, in which Picasso deploys a free, direct, and extraordinarily expressive graphic language. The figure, built with large blue eyes, a pronounced pink nose, violet curls, and a pipe from which rises a winding plume of smoke, is defined through essential lines and broad areas of pure color.
The combination of intense yellows, pinks, blues, violets, and greens on the gray background gives the composition exceptional energy and makes it one of Picasso’s graphic works that immediately stand out for their decorative character and richness of palette.
At the top, the inscription “PICASSO – Dessins”, together with the dates “27.3.66–15.3.68” and “11.2.69”, is fully integrated into the image, reinforcing the spontaneous and almost calligraphic character of the entire composition. The broad gestural yellow frame surrounding the scene further accentuates its chromatic intensity.
This is, moreover, a edition particularly difficult to find on the market, especially in signed and well-preserved copies. Its scarce appearance compared with other Picasso graphic works from this period, combined with its intensely colorful character and an immediately recognizable composition, greatly increases its appeal to collectors.
The work is signed in pencil by Pablo Picasso and numbered 106/150.
