Description from the seller
This photograph by Jeroen Molenaar from 2011, on the back labeled as Alghero Airport, shows a virtually empty airport platform that, through the chosen crop, acquires a strongly graphic character. The large, light concrete surface is cut by thin joints and a striking red line, while the yellow markings with black letters in the foreground function as a powerful color accent. Thanks to the low vantage point and the diagonal lines, a strong sense of depth and space emerges; the buildings, the small airplane, and the hilly landscape on the horizon seem almost incidental. In this way, Molenaar turns a functional, everyday environment into an almost abstract composition in which line, color, perspective, and emptiness take center stage.
Jeroen Molenaar (Zwolle, 1979) is a Dutch visual artist who studied at ArtEZ-CABK in Kampen from 2000 to 2004. In his work he mainly investigates space, architecture and perspective. He often starts from elements from urban or rural surroundings – lines, constructions and spatial structures – which he abstracts and distorts. As a result, what is initially recognizable, such as the markings on an airport in Cancun Airport, can become a game of geometry and depth. Besides photography, Molenaar makes paintings and spatial objects; also there he uses shifting lines and perspective distortions to mislead the viewer’s perception. His fascination with architecture and the way in which separate parts together form a spatial construction runs as a common thread through his oeuvre.
Dimensions: 75 x 50 cm
At the bottom of the work, there are light dents along the edge
Mostly damaged in the corners.
Viewing is of course possible.
