Jeroen Molenaar, Dijk bij Ouddorp, NL, a 2010 C‑print, signed by the artist, 75 × 50 cm, in kunstfotografie, sold by Galerie.
Description from the seller
On this photo you can see an almost empty parking lot by the dike of Ouddorp. The composition is defined by the long lines that run into the distance: the red bike path, the white road markings and especially the dark crack in the asphalt. This crack forms a strong contrast with the strict, engineered lines of the parking lot and gives the image an unexpected and almost abstract character. The vivid red of the bike path immediately draws attention and, together with the gray asphalt and the white elements, creates a powerful color contrast. Because of the low viewpoint and the strong perspective, a lot of depth is created, causing an ordinary traffic space to become a graphic and tense image.
Jeroen Molenaar (Zwolle, 1979) is a Dutch visual artist who studied at ArtEZ-CABK in Kampen from 2000 to 2004. In his work he mainly investigates space, architecture and perspective. He often starts from elements from urban or rural environments – lines, constructions and spatial structures – which he abstracts and distorts. As a result, something that is initially recognizable, such as the markings at Cancun Airport on a runway, can become a game of geometry and depth. In addition to photography, Molenaar makes paintings and spatial objects; in these as well he uses shifting lines and perspective distortions to throw the viewer off balance. His fascination with architecture and the way in which individual parts together form a spatial construct runs like a red thread throughout his oeuvre.
