Description from the seller
A magnificent set of six original antique copperplate engravings from Pieter Mortier's celebrated masterwork 'Historie des Ouden en Nieuwen Testaments' (Amsterdam, 1700), widely known as the 'Mortier Bible' or 'Great Bible of Mortier'. This coherent ensemble unites major theological, apocalyptic, and Old Testament antiquarian themes rendered with virtuoso Dutch Baroque burin technique, dramatic chiaroscuro, and expansive architectural perspective.

Having trained in Paris, Mortier brought French elegance and grand academic scale to the Dutch book trade. His 1700 illustrated folio Bible employed the leading Dutch and French engravers of the period, producing plates celebrated across Europe for their compositional harmony, crisp delineation, and theological precision.
